Stating that the civil service is the main driving force of the state, Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed said that to fulfill public expectations, government officials and employees must perform their duties with patriotism, honesty, and professionalism, completely free from political bias. He emphasized the need to break away from the administrative politicization of the past 17 years and transform public administration into a true servant of the people.

He made these remarks while addressing an event organized on the occasion of ‘National Public Service Day-2026’ as the chief guest at the BCS Administration Academy Auditorium in Shahbagh, the capital, on Sunday (July 19).

The Home Minister stated that the people have high expectations of the current government. To meet these expectations, transparency, accountability, and quality of service must be ensured at every level of the administration. Addressing government officials, he said, “You are one of the most privileged sections of this society. You must act as servants of the people, not as rulers.”

He added that there is no meaning in undertaking programs merely for formal workshops or to attract high-level attention if they do not genuinely benefit the people.

Emphasizing the need for radical reform of the statistics system for effective policymaking in the country, Salahuddin said that in the past, important statistics such as census, agricultural production, and per capita income were distorted for political purposes. He, therefore, called for transforming the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS) into a stronger and more crucial institution.

Mentioning the highest priority given to the agriculture and remittance sectors to strengthen the economic foundation, the Minister said that alongside the development of agriculture, fisheries, and livestock-based industries, technical and vocational education must be expanded to transform the country’s workforce into skilled human resources.
